I've been really, really busy in my studio...but not making things for the shop...or the show...I've been cleaning and rearranging...and we're not calling it "mom's office" anymore. It's just the craft room. Things were getting a little crowded and cluttered in our household what with Miles evacuated from his room (still haven't found a roofer) and the dining room (our only place to eat) in the middle of a renovation. I opened up my space (I had a work table blocking one of the doors) and created a kid's drawing area on one side.
The wall board is homasote (Jack picked it up for free with some other office equipment) covered in linen (also from a free pile). I added a pocket (a la Sally) for each child to keep their works in progress (they are lined and have been reinforced with interfacing).
I gave up a lot of my space, but this just works so much better for our family (Mia and I are in here together as I type). It forced me to pare down and organize my supplies as well. Now I'm really ready to get busy!

love those bucket chairs! i too had to give up some of my studio space for my husband when he converted from laptop to pc. it was hard, but now we craft/computer together. :)

Hey, I noticed your coffee press on the photo blog and wondered how you made coffee in it? I purchased one at a yard sale this fall with no instructions.

Ooh. I love the wall pockets! How did you attach them to the homasote? Homasote *sigh* - something no hardware store in my area has ever heard of. I must be asking for the wrong thing.

Tom Leach Roofing are the best roofers in Portland. They are fabulous. They are not inexpensive, but they will do the job right! They did our roof two years ago, it was a really big job (had to have the old roof removed down to the rafters, including the original 1906 cedar shakes). They were done and cleaned up in four days. When I had a question about the new roof, Tom himself came over to take a look the day after I called. Fabulous. I wish they did other projects too.. like replacement windows... (sigh).

It looks like such a great space for the kids. Good job on the set-up. I love that bird fabric.

Love the "new" crafting area for M + M. I'm getting ready for some major spring cleaning in my studio. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hope you're enjoying the sunshine. =)

It looks completely gorgeous, as always. Like from the pages of a magazine. An inspiring space for the whole family!

This is what I need to do...clean up my 'craft area' so that it will no longer be the dump-anything-here-area. The bird pocket fabric is beautiful.

Ah... I recently gave up room on my sewing table for my 10 year old son to sew with me. He's using my old machine and while I miss some of the room with two machines on the table, the company more than makes up for the loss. :D
And thanks for sharing. We're thinking about adding a craft table to the space and this gives me loads of ideas for it.

Oh yes- shared space! I have that too.
I actually enjoy working alongside my kids while they are creating, but honestly it doesn't happen all the time or when *I* would like it to happen...Oh well.
Love their drawing area and inspiration board.

There must be something in the air. I have been on a simplifying spree since the begining of Feb, and I started with my craft space. I've tried to be smart about setting things up in each room so that everyone's needs are met (including my need for simplicity).

ah yes! looks great (love the chairs!) and i am a firm believer in if you can't beat them join them, so to speak... (or at least all craft together!)

it's just perfect. i think it's so important to share creative space at home like this too. whenever i'm working on jewelry or paintings, my little guy is cutting paper all over the floor or taking out his playdough. i wouldn't have it any other way! (plus, his singing and humming is delightful to hear in the background....)

What a wonderful space! And I love the peek at M&M's art-- especially those viking teeth and the hearts on the sunshine.

gotta love the wall pockets!

Love the sewing machine. Our library has a display right now showing about 20 children's sewing machines. Most smaller than that one. They are so lovely. I didn't know they had been so popular. Thanks for the links.
