rescheduled
Another gift. These oven mitts are really easy and fun to make. I just make mine up as I go along, but I know that Denyse Schmidt's book has an oven mitt pattern if you'd like to give it a go.
I have a guest post over at Kiddley in honor of Santa Lucia Day. Mia was up really early today with her crown on, ready to serve everybody breakfast. Unfortunately, I was up really late with Miles whose fever was so high that he was hallucinating (frightening!...he's much better today, thank goodness), and I didn't have it in me to get up and make saffron buns. We decided to reschedule Santa Lucia for the solstice. Someone's ready...

*LOVE* the oven mitt.
I'm just about to make my very first soft trees (trying to get them done in time for a party I'm hosting tonight). Thank you *so* much for generously sharing your pattern!

I hallucinated often with fevers as a child, and it seems my son has inherited the trait too. Hang in there. Hope he's all better soon.

Poor Miles! It's such a drag being sick at this time of year when there are so many fun things to do. Wishes for betterness for him, ASAP.
GORGEOUS crown over at Kiddley this morning -- a dawn parade at solstice will be just perfect. Tell Mia I am very impressed at her maturity in rescheduling these special events. Very "healthy" approach, in more ways than one.

Now to hop on to Kiddley for a look at this crown...

beautiful oven mitt! those are on the weekend list for gifts... i just got some lovely *insulated* batting as my first thin cotton mitt did not do much to protect me from the hot pans :)

Interesting I'm eager to read about St.Lucia, I know nothing about this holiday.

I've been through one of those high fevers once before...SOOO scary! My son recovered within just minutes, thankfully. I, however, did not. He slept in our room for the next two days! Hope he is all well very soon.

Hi! I just discovered your blog and found Santa Lucia, how fun! It's a big thing here in Finland. My daughter is going to be Santa Lucia for my parents at Christmas Eve. Your dollhouse christmas looks amazing!

Nice - and surprising - to see someone outside Scandinavia noticing the Lucia tradition! I've always liked it, since people need some light in the dark winter months here in Sweden. I have just recently learned that this tradition comes from an even older one. Apparently, young people used to go out to farms and houses on December 26 and sing songs about St. Stefanos (not Lucia). In return for their singing they got food or a gift from the people of the house. I'm taking a short singing course learning these old songs (staffansvisor) now, so this is why I know about the older tradition. I don't know why it was replaced by Lucia or why the date was changed. Perhaps someone else knows? Anyway, I love your paper crown! A lot prettier than the electric ones - and safer than the ones with real candles.

Ooo, oven mitts. What a useful gift, and perfectly lovely with the right fabric. I must remember this when Christmas rolls around next year and I finally have a sewing machine to experiment with.
