flapping around

Love_birds

I just updated my shop. I was having some email/mailing list problems, so if you're on my list and received some subjectless email or none at all, I'm sorry. As usual, I'm just flapping around like a crazy bird with no clue how these things work.

Have a great weekend!

a chick, a plate, a correction

Lion_hat

A fluffy chick in a party hat. That great vintage lion fabric came from my sister who, as I've said, spoils me. She also sent me this rad vintage Melmac plate. It might have been meant for my kids, but it's staying in my studio.

Abc_rad

Did I say that I'd have a shop update tomorrow at 9:00 am? That's not going to work as I'll barely be back from taking my kids to school. let's make it 10:00 am pst. If you're on my email list, I'll send out a reminder. Thanks!

Pink_elephant

I'm having a really busy week, but I wanted to pop in and say hello. This little pink elephant will be in the shop on Friday with a few more friends (I hope). She's made of the softest 100% wool with vintage peach fabric sent to me by my sister (she spoils me rotten, I tell ya).

One of the things I'm dealing with is a sudden influx of comment spam, so I've turned on the word verification feature. Sorry, I know that's a pain. I've also discovered that my email program has been routing all kinds of mail to my junk folder that was, in fact, not junk, so I'm trying to weed through those messages as well.

Okay, back to work. Sometimes I want to call up my eight-year-old self and be like, "Hey, guess what I do! I make stuffed animals. People pay me to do it. For real. Cool, hunh?"

Mia_wip

Mia has been doing these little emroideries on linen. She draws the design on with one of those water-soluble marking pens and embroiders over it. She has learned through trial and error to keep the design fairly simple. Love how she's done the hair here.

Have a great weekend everyone!

hilda hippo

Hilda_hippo

Meet Hilda Hippo. Not too original a name, I know. I'm a little bit under the influence of Richard Scarry. She's a baby shower gift for my cousin's baby-to-be. She has a scarf because hippos need scarves when they're going to live in San Francisco.

Hippo

Her tail is not right. Hippos don't have tails like that (or polka-dotted underbellies, I suppose).  I tried  to make her a little bigger than my usual things. She's about twelve inches long. I will be doing a show with my (major gay games gold-medal winner, woot!) sister next year (my stuffeds and her paintings and collages), and I'd like to make one larger-scale piece for it. I'm summoning up the courage to work big, but Hilda is pretty much a modestly-sized hippo.

I am so happy to be making stuffed things again! It seems like forever since I've really finished something. So good to have my hand in my bag of wool stuffing again...

catch-up

Friends_2

Jack's move out of his home office has created total chaos around here. Just about every room in the house is getting rearranged, but it's going to be really great in the end. I can't wait to get my studio space set up; this really is a dream come true for me.

The_two_of_us

I can cross these patchwork kitties off my list, but I'm sad to see them go. I really loves making these guys! Look for some new ones in my shop in a few weeks.

Last week I popped my back-tack 3 package in the mail to Heather, and I'm pretty sure it has arrived, so here's some photos of what I included:

Backtack3_wrapped_2

For back-tack 3, we were supposed to create a softie from black and white materials with one additional color (accent color can not exceed 20%). We also had to include five buttons and the recipient's first initial. I'm not sure if the natural linen I used really qualifies as white, but there you go.

Backtack3_bunny

I gave her a little bag (where you'll find the five buttons) with a little felt carrot inside.

The monogram trim came from my sister a looong time ago (Lisa, when you went to France, so ten years ago?). Heather's initials are not N.H., but just think of it as "Nice Heather" or "Nifty Heather" or something. I made some matching extras as well: a pincone, tissue holder, needlebook, and covered tape measure.

Backtack_extras

Hope you enjoy it Heather! And in incoming mail news, I received this great package of trim, fabric and other goodies from Rachel for the trim swap.

Trim_swap

Thanks Rachel, you were really thoughtful and generous and thanks to Eireann for organizing a fun swap.

Kitty_kitty_1

Two patchwork kitties awaiting their outfits. These two make a mighty fine pair, but one will be staying here in Portland, the other will be heading to Canada.

Welcome if you're here via TypePad's featured blogs. I've updated my about page for the occasion. Soon I will have time for a post that includes an entire paragraph, soon.

Birds_of_a_feather

Wow. That was quite a morning in the shop on Wednesday. You guys had me so frenzied that I had to take a break for a couple of days and catch my breath. I wish there was a way on Etsy to upload everything at once rather than one item at a time (is there a way?). It is really unnerving to sit here, scrambling to list things and have them disappear before I can get to the next listing. I'm sure it is unnerving for those of you trying to shop as well! I do plan on updating the shop again soon; you will receive advance notice if you're on my email list.

For now, someone had a change of heart about red and linen bunny, so it's back in the shop!

Red_bunny

Enough with the shop talk. We just received some great mail which deserves a post of its own, so I'll be back soon with that! Happy Friday!
