refashioned
A new skirt for Mia. Made from a thrifted Isaac Mizrahi for Target woman's skirt in a nice heavy navy cotton that was just too short and full to suit me. I cut off the waistband and used the hem as the casing for the elastic waist. There was enough fullness to make two skirts for Mia (the next one will feature a patchwork hem, I think). The border is a great vintage (?) fish fabric sent to me by Meg at pixiegenne. I love this fabric so much that I was feeling a bit miserly with it and backed it with a navy stripe (actually a sheet left from Miles' duvet project). I ended up really liking this detail. I love hidden surprises in clothing.

I want her boots for myself!

Wow- she's one hip little girl! The skirt, boots and strippy tee are the perfect combo. I'd say she's ready for back to school in a BIG way!!!! How fun.

I love the miserly confession! I'm the same way with special beads and fabric, too. I occasionally find that I can't bear to use some of those special things in objects I'm creating. I just like taking those beads or pieces of fabric out, turning them over in my hands, and dreaming about what they could be one day (before I stash them away again, to inspire me later).

Hooray for fishy fabric and for being young enough to wear hot pink knee-high boots (we've got some in our house too).

Oh my, I'm swooning with the fishie-fabric cuteness! I have a serious thing for fish fabric. I would have totally been miserly with that stuff, too. I just picked up some vintage fishie fabric on eBay that is going to be a skirt one of these days...

The skirt, the boots, that delicious fabric...
Would that I were the kid who gets to wear that outfit today.
Nice!

if mia carries that great sense of style into adulthood, watch out everyone! stephanie this is so good, you had to have known it even as you were sewing it. wonderful, wonderful.
