everybody's doin' it...

Freezer paper stencil. I was going to hold off on trying this until I finished some other projects, but I mentioned it while visiting my mom the other day, and she gave me one of her spare boxes of freezer paper (she uses it for her art quilts; she's not preparing for the apocalypse or anything). Then my sister posted this silhouette of herself when she was in kindergarten and I knew it would be a terrific stencil. Lisa has gone on to create some great art with this image, so I hope she doesn't mind me using it. Mia and I made Aunt Lisa something special and this tee for Mia. Printed the image right on the freezer paper, cut it out with the exacto, used Amy's tip of ironing more freezer paper to the back as a stabilizer, mixed up some pale pink to go on a fuchsia tee we found at a rummage sale, Mia dabbed the ink on, and voila! We used Gocco Riso ink for cloth because it's what I had on hand. So simple and quick!

how nice to have aunt lisa close to the heart whenever you want! what a great idea!!

Can you reuse the freezer-paper stencils? If not, X-acto + mylar + scotch tape works well for me. I just make the mylar longer than the drawing by about 8" and then tape it to the table. I can lift it up, using the tape as a hinge, and bring it down in the same place every time (as long as I mark lines for the side/bottom of the shirt, which I fold over a piece of masonite). Then I tape it on the other side, which holds it steady as I stencil.

Not sure whether this makes any sense, but if not I will draw up a tutorial this week or so. Cheers.

This shirt is so cute! Just like all of you!!

now that is something to warm an aunt's heart!

eireann, it's my understanding that freezer paper stencils can only be used once (it only took me a few minutes to cut out this stencil each time), but i've heard about layering the paper and fusing it with an iron before cutting.

i would love to see a tutorial for your mylar stencils please!!

and it looks fabulous!!

Great Job and I love the color of the t-shirt! ITs almost as cute as the person wearing it =)
I checked out your shop and I dont see the tissue holders???
If you like OWLS come on by with MIA and see who is visiting my tree. =)

What a fabulous idea to use the silhouette! It turned out lovely. I can't beleive I haven't tried this yet.

That's great. I was meaning to ask around to see if gocco ink worked-- here's my answer!

Oh man -- perfect.

okay! I will try to make one this week or so. Depends on energy level. But I did get my order of shirts from American Apparel, so that's motivation right there. :) I'll try to remember to let you know when it is up.

adorable!!!
i love seeing photos of mia.

Beautiful girl, lovely shirt, and I even like the pillows behind Mia. Did you make those pillows?

awww she looks adorable in her new shirt!

The pink pillowcases in the background----I have those, too! From a great thrift outing! But, I have already cut one up to make a baby sundress-smock (that is my only talent, sewing baby dresses)---you are a great creative lady!
I will post my baby dress from the pillowcase on my blog soon!Rock on!
